Design for Disassembly

Rethinking the future of construction means going beyond the mere realization of a building, and designing from the outset for its possible disassembly.

With Design for Disassembly (DfD), we create structures where every component can be separated, recovered, and reused, becoming part of a continuous cycle of value.
Today, buildings are responsible for about 40% of global energy consumption and up to 30% of the waste generated in Europe. Our industry uses large amounts of natural resources, impacting minerals, metals, and wood. It is therefore urgent to transform construction into a concrete driver of sustainability, and DfD is one of the most effective answers.

Beyond Recycling: the Benefits of DfD
Designing for disassembly means thinking of buildings as true “material banks,” able to preserve their value over time and reduce environmental impact.
Disassembly makes it possible to recover reusable components, avoiding downcycling and lowering disposal costs. At the same time, the possibility of reuse reduces the time and expenses related to maintenance, adaptation, and reconfiguration of spaces.
Design for Disassembly thus becomes a concrete tool to achieve measurable sustainability goals, contributing to emission reduction and the preservation of natural resources. Moreover, designing dismantlable buildings means making them flexible and adaptable over time to users’ needs, without losing value.

A New Paradigm
With Design for Disassembly, we promote a vision of construction as a dynamic process, where nothing is an end in itself and every element can have more than one life.
It is our contribution to a truly circular future, where innovation and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.

NPS® Flex
Our dismountable version of NPS® beams and columns, designed according to the Design for Disassembly principle, is NPS® Flex. With NPS® Flex, we have transformed NPS® products—already fully recyclable—into reusable construction elements.
