The Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Village is designed to meet the requirements of a nearly zero-energy building (NZEB). Sustainable materials will be used, passive cooling will be implemented, and energy will be provided through photovoltaic panels. The buildings will be reusable. The complex will be carbon-neutral and LEED certified. After the Olympic Games, it will be converted into student housing.

The Project

The Olympic Village will be built in central Milan and will consist of 6 buildings, each divided into 8 floors. It will cover a total of 46,000 m² with 1,700 rooms.

The NPS® products provided are:

  • NPS® Cls beams (with and without steel sides);
  • NPS® Slim columns (single-storey, two-storey, and three-storey);
  • Hollowcore slabs

Advantages of NPS® Technologies

  • Construction time was extremely short (8 months, compared to the 11 months planned with the on-site solution);
  • Only 9 workers and 3 cranes used;
  • 80 fewer people on site compared to traditional construction methods (labor ratio 1:10 compared to traditional solution);
  • Ability to overlap construction phases, thanks to self-supporting structures that make spaces immediately available, without waiting for the 28 days for concrete curing;
  • Drastic reduction in formwork and props, with economic and environmental benefits;
  • Savings of approximately 160 A/R trips for provisional material;
  • Delivery without the need for storage;
  • No packaging and no waste required on-site for NPS®.
