Designed by architect Mario Botta, the hospital has 538 beds, and consists of about 116,000 m2 of deck.
Coupling self-supporting composite structures with hollow core slabs and prestressed slabs permitted to construct 116000 m2 of decking in 6 months, with a productivity of over 19000 m2 a month. The self-supporting characteristic of the structures permitted considerable reduction in worksite times, eliminating the need for shoring, formwork and form stripping required by traditional reinforced concrete structures.
