The renowned "know-how" of Tecnostrutture and reliability in the solution of complex projects led the company to be chosen as a partner for the supply of pillars, beams and floor slabs for the expansion of Venice's Marco Polo Airport, one of the most important transit locations in Italy.
An extension of 3,500m² will be added to the current 8,000m², for which Tecnostrutture has been identified as the primary supplier of PDTI® NPS® columns, NPS® BASIC beams and predalles floor slabs. The typical structural mesh on the first floor is 11.39x12.00m with beams over span 12.00m, on the second floor 1.39x24.00m with beams over span 24.00m.
The installation took place mainly when the airport and runways were closed, therefore at night, between 0.30 and 5.45 am. This was because the assembly was carried out with a very high crane, which interfered with the flight control radar systems. Furthermore, most of the assembly took place in the runway area, which conflicted with normal operations when the airport was closed. Some elements (beams) that fell on the boundary between the public area and the sterile area were wrapped in concertina (barbed wire) and installed under the supervision of the airport police. Another obstacle was the fog. In fact, access was denied to all workers, in case of insufficient visibility to guarantee safety in the area under the jurisdiction of the Civil Aviation Authority.
The installation of the NPS® structural elements was successfully carried out according to the site schedule, under the supervision of the construction management and the safety coordinator during execution.
