Garibaldi Station made with Top Down NPS®.
The presence of the Railway bypass on the North front, and passenger Terminal foundations on the other side, made the use of tie-rods to support perimeter bulkheads impossible. Deliveries had to respect precise time frames because the site did not have storage spaces.
Using the Top Down NPS® system, work started by moving earth at the ground level, to then descend by making the various decks top down, up to 21 metres below street level. The surface slab and roof of all the stations were made using mixed steel-concrete self-supporting truss girders with concrete base, delivered at the work site already fitted with precast concrete sides, thereby avoiding temporary formwork and shoring.
