The new Odense University Hospital is the largest hospital in Denmark, constructed between 2019 and 2022. It integrates seamlessly into the surrounding landscape and is connected to the tram line, covering a total area of 250,000 m². It includes clinics, intensive care units, laboratories, and services, linking the hospital environment with the university setting. It is divided into two main complexes: one extending from north to south and connecting to the university faculty, and the other from east to west for the day hospital, endoscopy, operating rooms, and wards.
International collaboration
The project team consists of Tecnostrutture for NPS® structures, ATIproject for design, and CMB with Itinera for construction. The innovative aspect of this project was the complete information exchange throughout the design process, involving around eighty professionals working in teams across Italy, Serbia, and Denmark.
NPS® Technologies
The Odense Hospital project chose Tecnostrutture for offsite construction and digital technologies to meet time, safety, and sustainability constraints. The composite steel-concrete NPS® system allowed for rapid and efficient construction. This system reduced construction time by 40%, improved site safety, and decreased environmental impact by 20%. The NPS® system ensures robustness and resilience to exceptional events, making it ideal for a project of this scale.
NPS® products used:
Franco Daniele, CEO of Tecnostrutture, states:
“Only an industrialized system like NPS® can ensure the high-quality standards required, construction speed, and installation regularity despite the harsh winter climate and snowfall.”
